Torrent Stream support

Common questions first. If your answer is not here, write to us — we read every message.

Get in touch: use the contact page. Writing from the app (More → Write to us) saves typing, because it fills in your app version, phone model, Android version, language and plan for you.

Requirements

Watching while it downloads

Play stays off. When can I start watching?

In Stream mode, Play turns on once the start of the video is ready: 5% of the video by default. You can change this in Settings → Stream buffer to 2%, 5%, 10% or 20%. A smaller buffer starts sooner; a larger one gives the download more of a head start.

With notifications on, the app tells you when a video is ready to watch.

Stream or Standard: which should I pick?

Stream downloads the video you watch first, in playback order, so you can play it while the rest downloads. It is available when at least one file you chose is a video.

Standard is the usual torrent download. Pieces arrive in any order and it is the fastest way to finish, but a video plays only once it has finished downloading.

You pick one when you add a torrent and can switch later on the torrent’s screen (Switch to Stream or Switch to Standard). The mode for new torrents is set in Settings → Default mode for new torrents.

A torrent has several videos. Which one plays?

Videos download and play in natural order, so episode 2 comes before episode 10. Download first picks the video that downloads now, and it is the one Play opens; the next ones follow in order. You can choose it when you add the torrent, or later in the torrent’s Files sheet.

Player and subtitles

How do I add subtitles?

In the player, open Subtitles. You can pick subtitles inside the video, a subtitle file inside the torrent (.srt, .vtt, .ass or .ssa), or Choose a file… to use one from your phone. Sync, size, colour, shadow and background can be adjusted there too.

“This phone cannot decode this video’s format”

Your phone cannot decode the format this video uses. Choose Open with another player: another video player on your phone gets a local stream link and plays what has already downloaded.

The player does not react to touches

The screen lock is on, so touches do not reach the player. Tap the screen to show the lock, then hold it until the ring fills to unlock.

Downloads

It says “Connecting to peers”, or downloads slowly

A torrent can only download what other peers send, so speed depends on how many share it and how fast they upload. The torrent’s screen shows how many peers and seeds there are. Some torrents have few or none, and may never finish.

Also check the banner at the top of your library: downloads pause on mobile data while Wi-Fi only is on, outside your download window while Scheduled downloads is on, and when your VPN disconnects while VPN-only mode is on.

Downloads pause on mobile data

Settings → Download on Wi-Fi only pauses downloads on mobile data and continues them on Wi-Fi. Turn it off, or tap Use mobile data on the library banner, to download over mobile data. Large torrents can use a lot of your data plan.

Downloads stop when the screen is off

Android may stop downloads to save battery. Downloading with the screen off needs two things:

  1. Run in the background allowed. The app asks once; you can also allow it in Settings → Run in the background.
  2. Notifications allowed for Torrent Stream, so the downloads notification can show while torrents are active.
“Paused: your VPN disconnected”

VPN-only mode (Premium) pauses downloads whenever your VPN disconnects, so they never continue without it. They continue when the VPN is back. You can turn it off in Settings.

Why do only 2 torrents download at a time?

The free plan downloads 2 torrents at once. The rest wait in the queue and start when a slot frees up. Premium removes the limit.

“Files were deleted · downloading them again”

If downloaded files are deleted outside the app, Torrent Stream notices, checks what is left and downloads the rest again. A paused torrent does this when you resume it.

To remove a torrent for good, delete it in the app and tick Also delete the downloaded files.

Files and storage

Where are my files saved?

By default in Download/Torrent Stream on your phone. Your file manager and other apps can open them there, and they stay if you remove the app.

In Settings → Download folder you can choose App storage instead: private to Torrent Stream and removed together with the app. Torrents you already added stay where they are.

How do I open a file or its folder?

Open the torrent and tap Files. The Files sheet plays finished videos, opens other files with another app, and has Open folder. Files in app storage can be opened only from here, because other apps cannot browse it.

Premium, ads and your data

How do I cast to my TV?

Casting to Chromecast and Google TV is part of Premium. In the player, tap Cast to TV. The phone keeps downloading and serves the video to the TV over your local network, so the phone and the TV need to be on the same network.

I have Premium, but the app shows the free plan

Open More → Restore purchases. The app checks your subscription with Google Play again. Make sure Google Play on this phone uses the Google account you subscribed with.

How do I cancel Premium?

In Google Play, not in the app: Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. More → Manage subscription in the app takes you there. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Google Play.

Can I turn ads off without subscribing?

Yes, for a while: on the free plan, watch a short video from your library and ads stay off for a period, 2 hours by default.

How do I delete my data?

There is no account to delete, and your library is on your phone. Full instructions, including the analytics data Google keeps for us, are on the data deletion page.

Still stuck?

Write to us from More → Write to us in the app, or through the contact page. Please say what you were doing when the problem happened; the in-app option adds your app version and phone details for you.
